Chrome: New browser better suited for applications BtoB on the web?
Firefox 3 and now Google Chrome, this heralds a lot of work for our technical team to verify the compatibility of our applications to the new navigation tools!
Indeed, in all BtoB application publishers to access "web", whether in SaaS, as well as society opas who made his main line of development or in more conventional fashion, the question of compatibility between applications and browsers needed.
The customer must be able to use the browser it wants in the version that suits him. This does pose some technical difficulties. Indeed, there are several rendering engines (mainly WebKit with Safari, Firefox and Gecko, of course, the engines specific to Microsoft for IE). Fortunately, these new versions of browsers will want more respectful of standards (W3C Web Standards) - and therefore these compatibility problems would tend to disappear. Added to this growing number of versions of browsers available (as he must always keep backward compatibility of our applications). For example, the applications offered by the company itself opas must remain compatible with the browser IE6 still very present among its customers.
So when a new browser enters the market is good news but also the announcement of a little work aside technical team to validate the compatibility even to consider some compromise between IE6 and Firefox 3, for example.
In short, Google informs us of the arrival of Chrome, what is it?
In opas, the excitement is at its peak, a new browser is an opportunity to validate the previous technology choices and perhaps suggest new things to make even more services to our customers.
The aim of Chrome, as stated on the video presentation seen on you tube, is to make the browser as simple as possible. This is good news for users of application BtB who want to focus on their business rather than constantly interact with a browser that has no relation with what they are doing.
Chrome also proposes to create shortcuts on the desktop applications to directly open mode web application, that is to say, by optimizing the workspace (example: address bar or search). This is particularly suited for SaaS applications and already adopted by the engineers of the company using opas daily.
Let us now open the hood to see what is driving this new browser. And then, good surprise WebKit found the famous rendering engine of Safari, Gecko preferred to that of Firefox. We are already assured, the platform opas will operate at 100% as before (as already fully tested for this browser).
Also note in the news a major step forward for all users to access web application BtB: The Contribution of multi-process in the navigation tab. This makes it possible to run multiple applications in parallel, safely, like on your desktop today (for more traditional applications - without web access). The browser may opas on a tab and will not be affected by what you do on the other tabs. Your session opas (tab) remains active and operational even if your application online word processing failed or is operating abnormally long.
Finally, a new javascript engine called "V8" is expected to significantly accelerate the applications running with javascript. It is obvious that this should open new doors and offer a bright and designed for applications deployed on the web, as SaaS applications for example.
Today browser vendors are beginning to fill a void by providing critical improvements for better integration of web applications in our daily lives. I bet they have many more ideas to come ...
Thanks for that and let see what will append next!
